DUPLICATE CERTIFICATE | CORRECTED CERTIFICATE
My horse was gelded. How do I get the certificate corrected?
Send in the original Certificate of Registration along with a written statement and the approximate date gelded. AQHA will update the certificate and enter the date on the computer and promptly return the certificate to you free of charge.
I lost my horse's certificate. How can I get a copy of the papers?
You will need to provide AQHA with a notarized Affidavit for Duplicate Certificate from the record owner stating what they did with the certificate, along with affidavits from all other persons who had possession of the certificate until the time the certificate was lost. In addition, AQHA will also need four photographs (each side, front, and rear view) and the duplicate fee of $25 if the person applying is a current member or $60 if they are not a current member. Special handling is an additional $30 each. Photos are required even if the horse is tattooed.
I recently got married, divorced or moved. How can I update my name and/or address on the certificate?
If you only want AQHA’s computer records updated, you may call, fax or e-mail AQHA. The corrections will be made free of charge. If you require a certificate update AQHA needs to receive a written statement advising of the correction, a $10 fee for each certificate, and each Certificate of Registration. Special handling is an additional $30.
My horse was stolen. What can you do?
Submit a written statement along with a copy of the certificate (front and back). AQHA will flag the horse's file and advise the recorded owner if any information is received.
My horse's color or/markings are different from what is listed on the Certificate of Registration. How do I correct this?
Submit the Certificate of Registration, four photographs (each side, front, and rear view), a notarized Affidavit for Corrected Certificate signed by the recorded owner and the $10 fee. If a major marking change is required, AQHA may request positive identification from the owner at time of foaling.
I do not like my horse's name. Can I change it?
Yes. An owner may change the horse's name, provided the horse has not competed in an AQHA show or special event, earned a special achievement recognition award, earned any money or award with an AQHA Affiliate as shown on AQHA records, appeared on any breeding documents submitted to AQHA or started in a recognized race. The certificate will need to be submitted along with new name choices and the $50 fee if the owner is a current member. Special handling is an additional $30. If AQHA named the horse, or AQHA made a typo, we will change the name at no charge.
My horse died. What do I need to do?
Return the original certificate along with a written statement giving the approximate date of death. AQHA will stamp the front of the certificate and promptly return it free of charge. Upon request, AQHA will stamp the back of the certificate.
