TRANSFER FORM - ENGLISH | TRANSFER FORM - SPANISH
What is the procedure for transferring?
Receipt of a completed and signed Transfer Report for each ownership change, the original Certificate of Registration, and $15 for a current member or $50 for a nonmember. Membership may be purchased at time of transaction.
The record owner of the horse is deceased. What do I need?
If there was a Last Will and Testament, and it was probated, we need to receive a certified copy of a court document appointing an administrator of the estate; such as Letters Testamentary or Letters of Administration. We will accept a faxed copy of a Letter Testamentary if all other items to transfer are here and the certification is less than one year old.
If there was a Will, but it was not probated, we need to receive an Affidavit of Non-Probate of Existing Will, (we provide this form) completed in view of a notary public, signed by all heirs, a copy of the Will and all other items to transfer.
If there was no Will, we need to receive an Affidavit of Heirship completed in view of a notary public (AQHA provides this form) signed by all heirs. The person authorized to sign for the estate also would need to sign his or her individual signature as seller on a Transfer Report form. We would still require all other transfer items.
Can you transfer ownership to a child's name?
Yes. However, the membership fee for a youth is $15 (we will need the youth's birthdate) in addition to the $15 transfer fee. If an adult and a child are joint purchasers, an open membership is required.
Will you accept a Bill of Sale?
Yes. The Bill of Sale must contain the date of sale, the name and complete address of the buyer, the signature of the seller, their address, and the registered name and number of the horse being transferred.
If a horse is jointly owned, who signs the Transfer?
Either party may sign the Transfer Report, unless, there is a co-signed statement by all parties in the partnership on file indicating all partners must sign on transfer. However, one of the joint owners may not transfer the horse to himself without the other owner's signature.
I got married and want to add my husband's name to my horse's papers. What do I need to do?
Horse must be transferred into a joint ownership using regular procedure.
I recently got married, divorced or moved. How can I get my name and/or address corrected on the certificate?
Computer corrections are free of charge. Certificate corrections require a written statement advising AQHA of the corrections, a $10 fee for each certificate and the Certificates of Registration. Special handling is an additional $30 each.
I purchased a horse and there is more than one transfer with the Certificate. Do I have to pay for each transfer and membership for each buyer?
You are only responsible for your membership. However, each transfer is $15 if you are a current member.
