36 AQHA Professional Horsemen will participate in Team Wrangler. Selection is based upon number of points earned for show industry professionals, or money earned in racing competition for racing industry professionals, in AQHA events during the previous competition year. In order to be eligible for Team Wrangler, you must be a current member, in good standing, of the AQHA Professional Horsemen Association. Additionally, AQHA cannot have received any written complaints against you within the previous two years. Team members are subject to final approval by AQHA's Professional Horsemen Council.
The 36 competitors will be divided into three teams - Team Riata, Team 20X and Team Cowboy Cut The three 12-member teams will compete for points between January 1 through October 31. Credits earned in categories are based on points earned by show industry professionals; credits for racing industry professionals are calculated according to the current Bank of America Racing Challenge award criteria. Wrangler will present the winning team, Exhibitor of the Year and Trainer of the Year awards at the AQHA World Championship Show. Wrangler will make a $20,000 contribution to AQHF on behalf of the winning team to establish a scholarship designated for AQHYA members who are members of the Wrangler All-Star Team. Each member of the winning team will receive a $1,000 cash award. Any current Team Wrangler member who wins an AQHA World Championship or an Bank of America Challenge Championship Race during the year of competition will receive an additional $250 cash. The Wrangler Exhibitor of the Year Award, given each year to a show industry professional who competes on Team Wrangler, will receive $2,500 and a Montana Silversmiths belt buckle. This award will be presented to the exhibitor earning the most points in AQHA-approved shows during the competition year. The Wrangler Trainer of the Year, given each year to racing industry professionals, will receive $2,500 and a Montana Silversmiths belt buckle. This award is presented to AQHA's Leading Trainer based on total money earned for the period of January 1 through October 31. Wrangler, "a legend in jeans," joined AQHA as a corporate partner in 1989 and, with its sponsorship role, produces AQHA's official jeans and shirts. The Greensboro, North Carolina, company also supports the Wrangler All-Star Team, comprising officers and directors of the American Quarter Horse Youth Association, and sponsors the Youth Excellence Seminars (YES) and AQHYA World Show. |
