PURPOSE OF JOB:
Assist Manager of Education in development and implementation of educational projects and activities including but not limited to Camp It Up, lesson plans, etc.
JOB DUTIES:
- Develop lesson plans for grades pre-kindergarten through 5th grade. Also, develop arena demonstrations and activities. Plan, organize and execute Camp It Up! activities.
- Work with educational manager to develop a comprehensive list of educational tools currently available.
- Create templates for various educational programs to be used as guides for other organizations, affiliates and leaders of horse clubs.
- Assist with any Hall of Fame duties as directed.
SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Intermediate to advanced horsemanship experience and/or education.
- Intermediate to advanced written communication skills (i.e. press releases, letters, advertisements, business plans, etc)
- Must be able to write lesson plans covering various subjects for grades pre Kindergarten through 5th grade.
- Physical skills required to care for, saddle, ride and groom horses, as well as assist in maintaining grounds.
- Supervisory skills for overseeing volunteers, visiting youth and lecturers.
- Superior verbal communication skills.
INTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS:
- Report to Manager of Education and Program Development.
- Correspond with all Hall of Fame and AQHA staff and employees.
EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS:
Corresponds with volunteers, visitors and advisors.

SUMMARY
AQHA’s Marketing and Communications programs reach into all aspects of the horse industry, regardless of discipline. Qualified candidates will be challenged to write daily press releases about the American Quarter Horse and related activities; develop relationships with media professionals, agencies and industry leaders. This position is located at AQHA's international headquarters in Amarillo, Texas. The successful candidate assists with implementing AQHA’s various promotions, advertising and marketing programs. By the end of a typical three-month internship, interns in this area can take a marketing program from concept to implementation.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Write and disseminate press releases
- Develop and maintain list of media contacts
- Develop and/or update various marketing material
- Help plan and coordinate special events that promote the American Quarter Horse and related activities
- Assist with planning and executing AQHA’s marquee events, including AQHA World Show, AQHYA World Show, Bayer Select World Show, and the Bank of America Challenge Championships
- Work closely with Internet Information Technology to market AQHA’s Web site
- Develop advertisements for AQHA and investigate media buys
GOALS- To create a consistent voice and look for the American Quarter Horse industry
- To market horse activities to media and general public
- To support membership into AQHA and ownership of American Quarter Horses
- To market AQHA programs to maximize member participation and enjoyment
- To ensure AQHA maintains its leadership position
SUPPORTING ACTIVITIES- Travel to various events
- Manage press room activities
- Write scripts for banquets, ceremonies and presentations
