3. International Internship

Each summer, AQHA provides colleges and university teams the opportunity to conduct horsemanship camps throughout the world.  The camps are a unique opportunity to educate hundreds of horse-interested people about horses, showing, AQHA and the benefits of riding and owning American Quarter Horses.

The AQHA International Intern plays a vital role in the success of each camp. AQHA will assist with accommodations and travel throughout Europe during the duration of this paid internship.

While the actual internship is a June-August commitment, AQHA requests the intern begin planning the camps with AQHA affiliates and colleges and universities as soon as December of the year prior to the camps. This lead time allows for proper planning, promotion and execution.

  • Schedule and coordinate international horsemanship camps throughout Europe.
  • Coordinate each camp’s focus and general subject areas with each international affiliate (eg if a showing camp, which classes; trail and/or recreational riding; general horsemanship) and match each camp’s focus area with the most relevant college/university.
  • Develop promotional plans with each affiliate that will maximize attendance at the camps, serve as a membership recruitment tool for both AQHA and the country affiliate, and help increase sales of American Quarter Horses internationally.
  • Attend AQHA convention to meet international affiliate leaders with whom the intern will closely interact with during the summer months.
  • Travel throughout Europe to each horsemanship camp from June through August working with the colleges/universities and the affiliates.
  • Attend the European Championships horse show and work with show management on duties to be assigned (eg schedule and help conduct clinics; work as part of the show management team).
  • Promote AQHA at each horsemanship camp by speaking on behalf of the Association and recruiting new members. Make a presentation on AQHA/the American Quarter Horse at each clinic.
  • Coordinate travel with colleges to camps within each country.
  • Help coordinate ancillary activities with college camp instructors.
  • Report weekly via phone/e-mail to AQHA International Department.
  • Write a blog on AQHA’s blog site, www.americashorsedaily.com, to promote the international clinics.
