Garry was a longtime member of the Mississippi Quarter Horse Association, serving as president three times. He managed the Dixie National Quarter Horse Show and for the past five years had managed the Region Nine Experience. He was known for his easy-going management style.
In 2000, Garry and his wife, Mary Bess, received AQHA’s Silver Spur award on behalf of their daughter’s horse, Two Steppin Oreo. The Swayze Woodruff Scholarship Fund, in honor of their daughter, Swayze, who died in 1999, was started with the proceeds of that award.
Garry was the Farm Bureau agency manager in Indianola. He was a member of the Jones Hunting Club of Arkansas.
Services were October 12 at Inverness United Methodist Church in Inverness, Mississippi, where Garry was a member.
Mary Bess has asked that memorials be to the Swayze Woodruff Scholarship Fund in care of the American Quarter Horse Foundation, P.O. Box 200, Amarillo, TX 79168.
