ST. CHARLES, IOWA HOST AFFILIATE: Iowa Quarter Horse Association DATE: September 13, 2008 LOCATION: Wildwood Hills Ranch, St. Charles, IA FEES: $35 per adult – includes ride and lunch ADDITIONAL OPTIONS/FEE: Participants can tour the Bridges of Madison County and/or visit John Wayne’s birthplace in nearby Winterset. BACKGROUND: Wildwood Hills Ranch is a 400-acre nonprofit facility, set in the scenic hills of Madison County, Iowa, just south of Des Moines. The ranch exists to transform lives and strengthen communities by providing healing, hope and God’s unconditional love to children and youth at-risk. Free summer camp and year-round retreats are offered to at-risk children ages 8-18. Kids are immersed in a fun, safe environment where character, leadership and teamwork are modeled and taught. Most importantly, children are offered hope and love while being challenged to grow into people of integrity who contribute to their communities. Trails vary from beginner to intermediate. ITINERARY: The day starts with the Trail Trials located in the arena at 9:30 a.m. or participants can enjoy the trails on their own. Lunch is served at noon with the afternoon ride leaving at 1 p.m. Refreshments and farewell will be at 4:30 p.m. There will be live western music featuring Pat Meade and drawings for door prizes. DIRECTIONS: Wildwood Hills Ranch is located 20 miles south of Des Moines – just 4.5 miles west of I-35 at the St. Charles exit on Highway G50, or 1.5 miles south of Winterset on Highway P71 and east eight miles on Highway G50. RENTAL HORSES: No STALLS AVAILABLE: No overnight stalls available. FACILITIES AVAILABLE: Primitive camping only. HORSE HEALTH REQUIREMENTS: Negative Coggins must be presented upon check-in.
