AQHA is excited you’re interested in having some AQHA-approved classes at your show! Regardless of your show management experience, we understand you could have some questions. Visit our online approval guide for answers. Here are a few things to consider as you plan your show and add AQHA classes. - The back number always follows the horse, not the rider.
- A horse can only be shown one time in each class per division.
- For safety reasons, a novice youth, youth or novice amateur may not show a stallion in any class.
- All exhibitors must have a current, individual membership. If an exhibitor does not, you may sell him or her a membership at the show. Click on “Selling Memberships” for more information.
- An AQHA-approved judge must at least judge the AQHA classes. To find a judge near your event, visit our online Judge Finder. Under TYPE, select either all-novice or progressive to start your search.
- Still have questions? E-mail Terrie Lovelady with your question, and the answer could appear on a later edition of this newsletter!

AQHA membership is extremely beneficial to you and to your exhibitors. We encourage you, as show management, to become a member so we can start sending you the latest information from AQHA. As a new AQHA member, your exhibitors are immediately eligible to particiapte in the Show Up! program. Additionally, if exhibitors complete a novice permit, they have the option of trying new horses in the arena while competing against others of similar experience! We also want to remind you that show management earns $5 for each membership sold at the show! **Watch later this spring for a special membership contest just for these special shows.
Advertising and promotion are very important tools to consider when planning your show. Regardless of whether you’re hosting a 4-H show, an open show or a breed event, proper promotion is necessary for success. As an added bonus, any open or 4-H show that receives approval from AQHA (at least 90 days before your event) to host approved classes will automatically be treated as an approved AQHA show. This means that you’ll have your show featured in The American Quarter Horse Journal, on aqha.com and if you send us your mailing list (for a one-time use), we’ll send postcards on your behalf! | |
