MOM WINS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WITH DAUGHTER'S HORSE.

Sue Guelker of Colorado City, Texas, was so excited she could hardly talk August 26 at the 2008 Bayer Select World Championship Show. Dogs raced around, well-wishers gathered and officials offered papers for Sue to sign as she beamed at all of them after her win. She managed to make time to tell the Journal exactly how excited she was.
Q. Congratulations. Is this your first world championship?
Sue: Thank you, I am so excited. Yes, it is. He was reserve youth yearling gelding (with my daughter), so I topped the daughter, and she’s not going to be happy with me. But I’m ecstatic. I’ve been doing it for 40 years, and this is the first world championship I’ve had.
Q. Tell us about the horse.
Sue: He is Kid B Styling, and he is a Kids Classic Style out of a Coolest mare, and Mike McMillian and Amanda Ballard found him for us in the spring, actually for my daughter, who is a senior in high school, and she’s not here right now. She let me show him and qualify him and I got to bring him to Select. So I’m real excited. Just real excited.
Q. Is this your first trip to the Select?
Sue: Yes, actually it is. I qualified a trail horse a couple of years ago but then my mom got ill and I couldn’t come, so this is my first time at Select. You can’t top that.
Sue Guelker and Kid B Styling of Colorado City, Texas, the 2008 Select world champions in yearling geldings.
Q. What plans do you have for your trophy?
Sue: I don’t know, but I’m sure it will be a place of honor in my house.
Q. Who’s your trainer?
Sue: Mike McMillian and Amanda Ballard, and I really do owe a lot to them, because they found him for us.
Fun Fact: Sue's daughter, Cheyenne, won reserve world champion yearling gelding at the 2008 Ford AQHYA World Championship Show with Kid B Styling. The high school senior had to miss the Bayer Select World for school, and class was still in session when Sue won. Reading this interview might be the way Cheyenne finds out that her mother won.
