WESTERN PLEASURE

A WIN FOR TEAM PINE.

BY CHRISTINE HAMILTON, FIELD EDITOR

Rebecca Pine and Ms Flashy Goodbar are the 2007 Select world champions in western pleasure.

In the stands on August 30 for the 2007 Bayer Select World Championship Show was a group of 10 people all wearing light blue shirts studded with rhinestones blazoned with the words “Team Pine.”

They erupted with cheers when Rebecca Pine, of Alamo, California, and her blue roan mare, Ms Flashy Goodbar, aka “Rosie,” were announced as Bayer Select World champions in western pleasure.

“They are my dearest friends and family and they all turned out to support me at this horse show,” Rebecca explained. “It’s been a long time dream and goal of mine. I am the most blessed woman (to have their support!)”

Rebecca and her husband, Mark, have owned the 5-year-old mare for about two years. They bought her in January of her 3-year-old year, after she had been reserve world champion in 2-year-old western pleasure in 2004.

“We had some soreness issues the first year (we had her) so we really just laid her up,” Rebecca said.

“And then my daughter, Jennifer, showed her in her last youth year last year, and my son, Conner, showed her at the (2007 Ford AQHYA World Championship Show) placing third.”

In 2007, Rebecca, Conner and the Pine’s trainer, AQHA Pro Horseman Dave Dellin of Sanger, Texas, have all shown the mare.

“We really had to pick our shows because she has a heavy schedule with three riders competing,” Rebecca said. “I got qualified in two shows, and my son got qualified I think in three shows, and the trainer in a couple of shows. We just really rested her and picked our shows.”

Rosie will have a bit of a break before heading to the All American Quarter Horse Congress and the AQHA World Championship Show.

For now, the Pines will enjoy this win. Four out of the five judges placed Rebecca and Rosie in the top three spots on their cards, with two firsts. It’s the first world championship for both horse and rider.

Rebecca thinks it was Dave’s preparation that really was the key to the mare’s finals performance.

“He’s done a phenomenal job; our whole family just loves him,” Rebecca said. “He’s awesome.

“I think (Dave) has really worked with her, and she’s just peaking,” she continued. “It was her time and everything came together. There are so many things that have to occur. It was just her night.

“I am so grateful to the people in the Quarter Horse industry and the Quarter Horse, all the things that they’ve done for our family and the friendships that we’ve made, and the experiences,” Rebecca continued.

“I want to say a special thanks to my husband who has supported me every step of the way.”
