Charlie McCollum got his start in the horse business in 1993 showing in the American Paint Horse Association. Six months ago, he diversified his show fleet and stepped into the AQHA show arena.

Less than a year later he scored his first Bayer Select World Championship with two-time AQHA world champion Mr Sinatra.

“My trainer, Clint Fullerton, has helped us find some great horses and prepare both me and the horses for the arena,” Charlie said.

“Frank” was the only horse Charlie brought to the Bayer Select World but said this definitely won’t be his last Select appearance.

“I was absolutely nervous out there because this was our first big Quarter Horse show, but we got through it and we’d love to come back,” he said. “Competitors sometimes have a tendency to put unnecessary pressure on themselves, but this was a great environment to start out.”

Frank is a bay stallion by Sierras Black Gold out of The Obvious Winner, by multiple AQHA world champion Obvious Conclusion.

“He is bred to be great, but his conditioning really makes him stand out in a crowd,” he said.

Charlie said he is hooked on AQHA competition after his first Bayer Select World championship. He and Frank will make their next stop at the AQHA World Championship Show in November.

Frank and Charlie led the field of seven exhibitors in the aged stallion competition.
