Malcolm Davis stayed consistent through the heading preliminaries and finals. With a 219 in the prelims, he and Zans Diamond Command scored a 218.5 to top the Bayer Select World Championship Show heading finals.

Malcolm, who owns a linen supply company in Oklahoma City, and Zans Diamond Command also won the Select world championship in heading in 2005. Malcolm has been in the horse business for more than 45 years, and he used to raise a lot of horses.

Zans Diamond Command took Malcolm Davis to the Select heading world championship.

"As I've gotten older, I've cut back," he said.

Bred by AQHA Professional Horseman Bobby Lewis, Zans Diamond Command is a 1989 chestnut gelding by Zans Diamond Sun and out of Commander's Tilt by Commander King.

"He's been successful his entire life," Malcolm said about the horse. "It's a blessing to get to own a horse that good."

In fact, Malcolm only ran seven steers on the big gelding -- enough to get qualified -- since the 2005 Bayer Select World.

"I was going to retire him," Malcom said, "but I'm going to bring him back one more time.

"It's just gratifying to be able to get here and play the game," he continued. "I'm glad they have the Select because if it wasn't (here), it would make it hard for people our age to compete."
