Last year’s runner-ups for the Sooner Trailer Bayer Select All-Around Amateur, Rodger Call and Flamingo Bay, took home their first two gold trophies in hunter hack and working hunter in their last show together.

“I’ve ridden him for two years, and he’s taught me what to do with the jumping and the fences,” Roger said. “He’s got a heart of gold, and he’s a sweetheart. He’s 17-years-old, and I think I needed to pass him onto other people who want to learn the jumping events.”

As of tomorrow, Flamingo Bay, a1989 bay gelding by Pago Solano and out of Dillons Doll by Kansas Dillion, will move on to his new life, competing in novice youth and amateur classes.

Rodger actually qualifed two horses for the hunter hack and working hunter finals. His other horse was multiple world champion Dominant Lord, who he will continue to show in the working hunter, hunter hack and equitation over fences.

Rodger has successfully shown in English events for a number of years, with multiple AQHA World Championship Show appearances and year-end awards.

Rodger Call and Flamingo Bay of Fort Worth, Texas, took home the 2006 Select world championship in hunter hack on September 3.
And two classes later, the two captured a second Select world championship in working hunter.
Earlier in the day his wife, Ann, won the pleasure driving Select world championship.

“I’m thrilled for her,” he said. “She’s a great lady, and it’s the only event she can do. She loves doing it. The people are so friendly and so nice.  It gives us something we can do together with our great friends and have a wonderful time.  We appreciate the AQHA and Bayer Select people, and we want to continue doing it as long as we can.”

The Call’s began showing horses as a family in 1985.

“My wife had always wanted to have a show horse as a child,” Roger said. “Her parents used to take her to the public library and she would run over to the horse magazines and hope for a horse.  But she never got one until she was an adult.

“She used to play championship flight tennis and because of the diabetes, she had to quit playing tennis, and she said ‘Now’s the time to get a show horse.’”

The Call’s son won the AJQHA world championship in jumping in 1991. Their daughter also showed in working hunter and hunter under saddle classes.

Trained by Jason Martin and Charlie Cole of High Point Performance Horses in Pilot Point, Texas, Flamingo Bay is familiar with championship arenas. He has more than $11,000 in World Show earnings and is qualified to the 2006 World Show in senior working hunter and jumping.

Here’s a short list of the horse’s many titles:
