Denise Werner and 2006 chestnut stallion The Plantiff won the first world championship of the 2006 Bayer Select World Championship Show. The horse was first under all five judges.

The colt is a homebred for Denise and her husband, Gary, of Lees Summit, Missouri. He is by The Statutory and out of Uneek Playgirl by Playgirls Conclusion.

“My husband couldn’t be here today, and I know he’s just dying at home,” Denise said. “He had to fly out to judge a horse show in Utah. Luke (Castle), and I had to do it on our own. I was in great hands.”

The colt has been with AQHA Pro Horseman Luke Castle of Purcell, Oklahoma, since he was weaned about three months now.

“He is as good-minded baby as I’ve ever had,” Luke said, “Never nickered, just jumped on the trailer the other day, never kicked or pawed. He is so good-minded, really good to be around."

According to Luke, the colt comes by it honestly.

“His breeding,” he said. “The Playgirls are really good-minded. His daddy was good-minded. I showed him when he was a baby, too, and he reminds me

so much of (him).”

They might head to the All American Quarter Horse Congress with The Plantiff, and are certain to head to the AQHA World Championship Show.

“We’re awfully, awfully excited (about this colt),” Castle said. “He’s an N/N colt, too, and that’s a big plus, for him to have as much body as he does.”

The Werners have had a lot of experience and success showing weanlings. Gary is an AQHA judge and Pro Horseman, and Denise has qualified for and shown in several World Shows.

“You just have to forget about (being nervous),” Denise said. “You just have to take a deep breath and go on.

“Make sure they’re broke, that’s the most important thing.”
