“I saw him last year at the (AQHA World Championship Show) as a weanling, and I fell in love with him,” Sheila McKenzie said of her palomino yearling, Gangstah. “I’m not a big palomino fan, so I really fell in love with him.”

The pair just won the 2006 Select world championship in yearling stallions.

“He’s just really pretty-necked and bodied,” she added. “I just don’t think you can fault him.”

Shelia McKenzie of Canton, Texas, won the Select world championship in yearling stallions with Gangstah.
Bred by Kathleen Lawrence of Carthage, Missouri, Gangstah is by A Legend At Last and out of Ms Marelyn by Kids Classic Style. He placed fourth in amateur weanling stallions at the 2005 World Show.

The horse has been trained by Monte Horn and AQHA Pro Horseman Ross Roark. Plans are now to take the horse to the All American Quarter Horse Congress in October and on to the World Show in November.

“He’s kind of come on, and we expected him to do that,” Sheila said. “We’re proud that he did.”

From Canton, Texas, this is Sheila’s first time to compete at the Bayer Select World Championship Show. “It’s great so far!” she said.

Shelia has a slew of horse show friends here cheering her on. She doesn’t raise horses, “I just like to show,” she said. She’s also showing Coolestplaygirlntown in yearling mares.
