A WELL-ROUNDED STALLION EARNS HIS FIRST WORLD TITLE.
BY JODY REYNOLDS, AQHA INTERNET EDITOR/E-COMMERCE MANAGER
Denny Hassett leads BR Cinderella Man to pick up the performance halter stallions world championship trophy.
Susanne Willows came all the way from Alberta, Canada, to watch her stallion BR Cinderella Man show in performance halter stallions alongside AQHA Professional Horseman Denny Hassett. And she never drempt he'd do as well as he did. Earning Susanne her first world championship, "Cindy" landed first in three judges' line ups, then took a second and a third from the other two judges. A versatile stallion, Cindy is also a barrel racing, pole bending and rope horse. But Susanne plans to retire him from competition and focus on a breeding program. Here's what Susanne told the Journal just moments after her inaugural win.
Q: Congratulations! How does your first world championship feel?
SUSANNE: I'm super excited about BR Cinderella Man. It's a dream come true. Last year, he was third at the (All American Quarter Horse) Congress, and I didn't expect him to do that well today. I'm glad he did!
Q: What do you like best about the stallion?
SUSANNE: He has this really neat look with his eyes. They're very warm. I can't wait to breed him to some mares. He's never been bred. I've got four halter mares at home. One is a Youth World champion. I'm excited about that baby.
Q: How did you find "Cindy?"
SUSANNE: Last year, at the Congress. I was there showing Prime Time Tommy. Denny (Hassett) found him.
Q: What other events does Cindy do?
SUSANNE: He does roping, barrel racing, pole bending and halter. He got his ROM before I bought him.
Q: Besides a breeding program, what other goals do you have with Cindy?
SUSANNE: Just breeding. He might just be retired after this. I've got some other geldings coming up.
Q: Tell me a little more about yourself.
SUSANNE: I'm from Alberta, Canada. I live quite a ways up there, but I do keep the horses in the states because there are so many shows down here. I usually keep them in Idaho with Colleen and Chris Riedle. Chris has been fitting them, and Colleen hauls them around and shows them for me.
Q: Do you hope to show with other horses next year at the World Show?
SUSANNE: Probably Prime Time Tommy, and I've got a little gelding by Cindy. It's hard to say. I haven't decided for sure.
Q: Who would you like to thank?
SUSANNE: I'd really like to thank Chris and Colleen (Riedle), who put an awful lot of time in with this horse. Also, Edmonton Kilpatric, Colleen's dad, who just passed away a couple weeks ago. He got her started in horses. If he hadn't gotten her started in horses, I wouldn't be where I am today either.
Fun Fact:"Cindy's a kid in a candy store. He just loves to play. He's a fun horse."
