Ross Roark leads Gianni to accept the world championship trophy for 2-year-old stallions.
With AQHA Pro Horseman Ross Roark leading Gianni to receive his first world championship trophy, owner Gerri Leigh Pratt’s eyes brimmed with tears. It was a very special win. Gianni’s sire, Telusive, was Gerri Leigh’s favorite. She had owned Telusive for 10 years, until his death in September 2006. Gerri Leigh’s dream is for Gianni to step into his father’s shoes. This world championship was just a dream come true, she said. The Journal caught up with Gerri Leigh by the Superbarn warm-up pen to ask her about this special win.
Q. Tell me about Gianni.
Gerri Leigh: He’s a 2-year-old stallion and he’s one of the last of Telusive, which means a lot to me. It’s very special because he was my love, and I lost him. So this is kind of a replacement. He’s just a beautiful stallion to me.
Q. So this was his last show?
Gerri Leigh: Probably. We’re going to stand him at Clark and Ross’s.
Q. What’s his personality like?
Gerri Leigh: He’s got a great personality. He’s very personable. He’s just a personable horse. He’s friendly. I think he likes the limelight.
Q. Is he a lot like his sire?
Gerri Leigh: Yes, he is. His conformation and his image.
Q. Do you have any more to show?
Gerri Leigh: No, we’re done. It was an awfully good show. I love being here.
Q. Who would you like to thank?
Gerri Leigh: There are just way too many people to even mention. My whole camp. Clark, Darrell, Ross, Keith, Ted, I mean everybody.
Fun Fact: Gianni’s sire, Telusive, won an amateur aged stallion world championship with Gerri Leigh at the shank.
