2009 AQHA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW

NOVEMBER 6 - 21 | OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA

AMATEUR 3-YEAR-OLD MARES

AS NICE AS SHE IS PRETTY.

BY KATIE HENDRICKSON, MARKETING INTERN

Ann K. Admonius smiles while leading A Mona Lisa Clu to the amateur 3-year-old mares world championship.

After winning the amateur 3-year-old mares world championship with A Mona Lisa Clu, Ann K. Admonius of Ocala, Florida, raved not only about her mare's looks, but also, her personality. Here's what she had to say in her winning run interview.

Q: Congratulations Ann! Will you tell us about your world champion?

Ann: My trainer, Gene Parker from North Carolina, found "Mona" for me last year. She’s been a phenomenal mare. She’s great to work with. Like I said (in the arena interview), she’s great minded. She’s as nice as she is pretty.

Q: Were you looking for a halter horse to show?

Ann: Yes. I went to Gene two years ago and told him I was ready to do halter again. I asked him to find a mare for me and he did – a very good one!

Q: Is there a trick to getting her shown so well?

Ann: Not really. She’s really a kind mare. I mean a very kind mare. I told somebody I thought she was a pleasure horse in a halter horse body because she’s very laid back. You set her up and she’ll show for you.

Q: What are your future plans?

Ann: I’m going to have a really good time tonight and that’s pretty much my plans right now! Gene’s going to show her next week in the open and I hope we’ll be celebrating again.

Q: Is there anyone special you’d like to thank?

Ann: There’s a multitude of people that have been very, very supportive. Definitely Bobby and Gene and definitely my husband.

Q: Tell us about your world show experience overall.

Ann:  It’s been fantastic. I love this show. It’s been a fantastic experience. I love the way it’s run and needless to say, I like winning in it.

Fun fact: As a yearling in halter, “Mona” won the Ford Youth World Show and was reserve open world champion at the World Show.
