Penny King led Lovin My Career Move to a world championship in yearling mares. The filly is owned by Penny's parents, Gene and Sue King.
As Penny King brought Lovin My Career Move forward to accept their world champion trophy for yearling mares, Penny’s parents Gene and Sue King came into the arena to celebrate with her. They own the tall chestnut filly and Penny showed her in a pen against 15 other yearling mares. With friends crowded around them offering congratulations and pats on their backs, the Journal was finally able to pull Penny and Sue away to ask about their winning run.
Q. Tell me about Lovin My Career Move.
PENNY: She’s a yearling filly. She’s extremely big for a yearling.
SUE: She’s so balanced and good legged ,and just everything on her is perfect. And she’s so good natured. She’s really good natured.
Q. How did you find her?
SUE: Monte Horn found her for us. Monte and Anna Horn are our trainers and Skylar. We told him we were looking for a yearling filly and he told us to come and look at this one. Jimmy and Joan Estes owned her and raised her, and we are really grateful they sold her to us.
Q. Penny, you and the filly were placed first once, second twice, third once and even 11th under one judge. Did the placings worry you?
PENNY: Oh yes. Especially the one that knocked me clear down. But the rest of them put me up pretty high.
Q. You had a big cheering section. Did you hear them?
PENNY: Oh, yes, and that helped.
SUE: We’ve got wonderful friends.
Q. Is there anyone you would like to thank?
PENNY: Just all our friends who made it possible.
SUE: I’m on cloud nine, and I want to thank the good Lord. He helped us get it.
Fun Fact: Although the Kings have been showing halter horses since 1993 and have made it several times to the World Show, this was their first world championship.
