2009 AQHA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW

NOVEMBER 6 - 21 | OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA

JUNIOR WESTERN RIDING

OWNERS' FIRST WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP AT THEIR FIRST WORLD SHOW.

BY CHRISTINE HAMILTON, FIELD EDITOR

The Uninvited Guest and trainer Kristy Staniforth-Mccann won the 2008 world championship in junior western riding. AQHA President Ken Mumy presented the gold trophy to owners Candice Hall and Cory Seebach of British Columbia.

Candice Hall and Cory Seebach of Black Creek, British Colombia, often show south of the Canadian border, from the Southern Belle Futurity to the Oregon Summer Classic, but they had never been to an AQHA World Show. In 2008, they decided to make the trip to watch Kristy Staniforth-Mccann of Graham, Washington, ride their gelding The Uninvited Guest in the junior western riding. And now they are going home with their first world championship trophy. The Journal caught Kristy outside the Jim Norick Arena to ask her about the win.

Q. What makes this horse a world champion western rider?

Kristy: He is very reliable; he does his job every time. He loves his job. He’s always happy when he goes out there. (He is) super easy to prepare. He’s just a great horse.

Q. So, how does it feel?

Kristy: Unbelievable. (She laughed.) Unbelievable.

Q. Please tell me a little about the owners.

Kristy: It’s their first time to the World Show and definitely their first world championship. They’ve had other horses in the pleasure, in the 2-year-old. But it’s the first time they’ve experienced this and they’re having a great time.

Q. What’s next for him?

Kristy: He is going to be an amateur horse next year for his owners. He will go home, get a little rest, and then get ready for the (Arizona Quarter Horse Association ) Sun Country Circuit and show next year.

Q. Is there anyone you want to thank in particular?

Kristy: Boy, there’s such a long list, I couldn’t even say. It was fun!

Fun Fact: Husband and wife, Cory Seebach, a dentist, and Candice Hall, a veterinarian, own Border Quarters Ltd. on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. They have shown Canadian national champions and National Snaffle Bit Association world champions.
