Steve Meadows led Invitation To Flash to his first world championship title.
As Steve Meadows led Invitation To Flash forward for the world championship wreath to be placed around his neck, owner Cecilia May Hylton came down into the arena. With tears in her eyes, she patted the bay stallion’s neck and told him she was proud of him. It was a special win for her, as Invitation To Flash’s great-grandsire, Flashy Zipper, was one of Cecilia’s favorite horses. The Journal caught up with Cecillia amid a crowd of well-wishers to ask her about her 4-year-old stallion.
Q. Congratulations, Ms. Hylton. What’s this win mean to you?
Cecilia: Oh, gosh! I can’t even explain it. I don’t have words for it.
Q. Tell me about Invitation To Flash.
Cecilia: This is horse is really special to me because I owned Flashy Zipper and Flashy Zipper was his great-grandsire. And I love the Invitation Onlys, so what’s better than that?
Q. What’s his personality like?
Cecilia: You wouldn’t know he’s a stud, but he loves to try to chomp you in the ring as he tried to do with Steve. But Steve does a good job with him.
Q. Did you raise this horse?
Cecilia: No. I bought him when he was very young, though, and we’ve brought him along real slow. This is just unimaginable for him to be a world champion.
Q. What is his best event?
Cecilia: Western pleasure. He looks great in it.
Q. What’s next?
Cecilia: I don’t know. Go to Disney World, I guess.
Q. Who would you like to thank?
Cecilia: Oh, everybody. Particularly, Bobbie and Gene Parker for preparing this horse for us and doing a magnificent job. I can’t thank them enough.
Fun Fact: Cecilia purchased Invitation To Flash at the 2005 AQHA World Show Sale. As part of the sale’s bonus plan, which is in its second year, Cecilia received $5,000 for the 4-year-old stallion’s world championship win.
