2009 AQHA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW

NOVEMBER 6 - 21 | OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA

SENIOR HUNTER UNDER SADDLE

MUST BE A DETAIL TAKES ANOTHER GOLD.

BY CHRISTINE HAMILTON, FIELD EDITOR

Must Be A Detail won the 2008 senior hunter under saddle world champions with AQHA Pro Horseman Beth Case in the irons.

Must Be A Detail carried AQHA Pro Horseman Beth Case of Pilot Point, Texas to the 2008 world championship in senior hunter under saddle on November 21. Just last week, during Bank of America Amateur Week, Kristina Papendick of Rapid City, South Dakota, rode the gelding to the amateur hunter under saddle world championship. The horse is owned by Kristina’s mother, Kerry. The Journal caught up with Beth shortly after the win for a short visit.

Q. What stands out to you about this horse as a trainer?

Beth: Just that he’s great-legged. His trot’s big and his lope is great, and his head and neck is always great, he hangs it really good by himself. I don’t have to work too hard to make him stay. He stays pretty good, and as long as he’s feeling good he’s right on, usually.

Q. How long have you worked with him?

Beth: We got him in January when he turned 4, so about two years.

Q. What’s the best part about working with him?

Beth: He is a pretty natural mover. I’ve had to teach him some stuff, but besides that he’s been pretty easy.

Q. In the arena, you mentioned a thank you to Jason Martin and Charlie Cole. How long have you been with High Point Performance Horses?

Beth: I moved to Texas in 2003, I think. But I worked for them in California, too, for a long time.

Q. Is there anyone else you’d like to thank?

Beth: His owners are really good to me, letting me take him wherever I want to, and show him whenever I want. The help at the barn who helps me get him ready. (She smiled.) I guess I should thank my husband, too, (Kevin) for always letting me go to shows.

Fun Fact: Two full brothers showed in the senior hunter under saddle finals, both by Hot Impulse and out of Wana Dancer (TB) by Rewana (TB). Chuck Briggs showed the 2001 bay gelding Investment Hunter to fourth place, and Leslie Lange showed the 2002 black gelding Kamanyawannadance to sixth. Both brothers were bred by Sara Linnes of East Sound, Washington.
