All of those words describe the emotions associated with winning a world championship. But scary? That’s how Julie Smith of Whitesboro, Texas, described what it was like to have her named called and receive a gold trophy.
“I was reserve here two years ago, but I’ve never won, so it was kind of scary. Just the whole hype of it all I guess,” she said.
Smith, wife of AQHA Professional Horseman Jason Smith, might not be new to the World Show arena, but her world championship with JMK Dynamic Fella was a first for her.

“Being a trainer’s wife, you always want to be the best. (The class) was long, but I think everybody says that,” Smith said. “I wish my horse would have shown better, but that’s okay, I guess it all worked out.”
“Dyno,” as he is referred to around the barn, has been a favorite show horse for all members of the Smith family, including Julie, Jason, their son Cooper and Jason’s mother, Sarah.
“He actually belongs to my mother-in-law, but my son wanted him in his name,” Smith said. “He’s like all (Mr) Yella Fellas, he doesn’t like to be your friend. He likes to be on his turf, and his way. But they’re always in such nice conformation, and they’re fun horses to be around. You just have to learn how to be around them.”
With Sarah at the lead, Dyno won a world championship in the 2-year-old geldings class earlier this year at the Bayer Select World Championship Show in Amarillo. This was Dyno’s first time competing at the World Show.
