Pam McBeath was worried about how well her gelding, Etrade, would do at this year’s World Show.

She, her son, Casey, and Etrade’s trainer, AQHA Professional Horseman Ted Turner, had been traveling all year showing the 3-year-old gelding in halter classes around the country. Even though he was named grand champion at many of the shows, McBeath was concerned that Etrade would be tired of showing and not do well in this year’s World Show amateur 3-year-old halter class.

“You win, and you want to do good, but it seems like it gets harder,” McBeath said. “You get the first win and seems like the next ones are just as hard or harder. And, you know, you want them just as bad.”

Pam McBeath and her gelding, Etrade, won the 3-year-old amateur geldings halter class.

She didn’t need to worry. Etrade easily won the class the morning of Wednesday, November 9, against 10 other entries.

“He is such a great horse,” McBeath said. “We’ve enjoyed having him so much.”

Etrade is no stranger to World Show trophies. The 3-year-old gelding was this year’s reserve youth world champion, the 2004 world champion amateur 2-year-old gelding and reserve world champion 2-year-old gelding, the 2003 world champion yearling gelding and youth world champion yearling gelding, and the reserve world champion amateur and open weanling.

But Etrade can be a handful at times for the petite Benton, Louisiana, resident.

“He’s a big boy, and he likes to go fast,” she said. “But he really likes to show. He gets out in the show pen, and he gets so much more pumped up out there than he does just around the barn. He really would prefer to be out there and showing.”

Etrade will try for another world title next week in the 3-year-old gelding open halter class with Turner. McBeath shows again on Friday, November 11, with Etrade’s three-quarter brother, Emailed, in the 2-year-old amateur gelding class.

“We’ve only showed him a few times, but he’s doing very well,” McBeath said. “So, hopefully we’ll do well here with him, too.”
