Object Not Found. Please verify that the object you are linking to exists.Elusive Essence only began showing in halter this year, but she’s been making up for the lost time.
The 3-year-old Mr Elusive daughter is leading the nation in open and amateur halter mares, and, as of October 1, the mare has earned 196 open halter points and 138 amateur halter points. In October, she was the All American Quarter Horse Congress reserve grand champion mare in amateur and open. And, as of Friday, November 11, she’s the world champion amateur 3-year-old mare.
“She’s done very well this year,” owner Darlene Turner said. “She’s just beautiful. Whether a person really likes the parts of her or not, they have to look at her because she is just gorgeous.”

Darlene, who is the wife of AQHA Professional Horseman Ted Turner, purchased the mare last fall from Timothy Meyer, who co-owns Mr Elusive with the Turners. The mare is out of Cool Celebration by Cool Cruisin Skip, the 1993 reserve world champion 3-year-old stallion and 1991 world champion yearling stallion.
Although she is perfect in the show arena, Darlene said the mare is quite the character at home.
“Her name is ‘Digger,’” she said. “She digs all the time, and has to wear hobbles all the time because she lives up to her name.”
Digger will show again next week in the open 3-year-old mares class with Ted on the lead. After the World Show, Darlene isn’t sure what’s next for the young mare.
“I figure she’ll stay in the barn, and either we’ll sale her or keep her ourselves,” she said. “Hopefully, we don’t have to go to any more shows this year.”
