Object Not Found. Please verify that the object you are linking to exists.At 13.3 hands high, Clarks Elion might be small, but he made a big impression during his first trip to the World Show.
“He’s a 5-year-old, and he was previously a cutting horse before I got him,” said CR Bradley, who rode “Elion” to a world championship in junior tie-down roping. “He’s a little horse. He just has a lot of heart and tries really hard.”
Owner Drue Knight brought Elion to Bradley’s training facility in Collinsville, Texas, in March never having roped on him.

“The first day (Knight) brought him to me, he was there watching,” Bradley said. “He had never roped before, and we were just tracking him around the arena with a breakaway rope. The first time I threw my rope, and he stopped, I thought, ‘Boy, this is a good one.’ Right from the beginning.”
Bradley’s instincts were right, and after just a few months of roping training, Elion won the calf roping class at the All American Quarter Horse Congress, beating horses with years of experience in the roping arena.
Bradley said Elion’s cutting background has played a large part in his tie-down roping success.
“Most cutting horses are really fun to rope on,” he explained. “He already had the stop, he’d already been on cattle and wanted to follow the cows.”
When Elion was younger, a pasture accident changed his life.
“He broke his jaw when he was 2 years old. I think a horse kicked him,” Bradley said. “He has to eat Equine Senior, and alfalfa hay is the only thing he can chew.”
But that didn’t stop Elion, or even slow him down. Bradley is hoping to convince Knight to show in the amateur class next year.
