AQHA Professional Horseman Bruce Vickery and the 5-year-old gelding So Much Potential have now won back-to-back world championships in junior trail. It’s only the third World Show appearance for the horse.

“This horse is such a natural at this event that it’s easy for him,” Vickery said. “You just have to show him the obstacles and what you want. You just don’t overdo. You just make sure to keep it to a minimum in preparation and get him moving good, and you’re good to go.

“With this particular pattern I felt like the toughest part about it was the ending: the jogging through the last part, the squares and into the last boxes. You just had to really, really pay attention.”

Vickery also qualified two horses in the senior trail immediately following the junior trail. How does he keep the patterns straight when he shows back-to-back?

So Much Potential wins his second world championship in a row in junior trail. It's exhibitor AQHA Pro Horseman Bruce Vickery's fifth trail world championship in a row.
“You really have to focus and stay on target,” he said. “It’s very hard. I, for one, have gone off course before just like that, going back-to-back. You have to really concentrate; those little bitty things will get you.

This is Vickery’s fifth trail world championship in a row. He won the senior trail in 2001 and 2002 on What A Fancy Zippo, the junior trail in 2003 on One Tuff Hearty and now these two with So Much Potential.

Owner, Joanne Garnett of Lincoln, Nebraska, just started showing the horse this year. She qualified for the World Show in amateur trail and made the amateur finals.

“I thought that was remarkable on a junior horse,” Vickery said. “Even though he’s pretty seasoned as a junior horse, he’s still very green in comparison to the majority of the amateur horses.”

Vickery will also ride the horse in the upcoming junior western riding finals.

“He’s been very successful,” Vickery said. “We’re really excited and very proud of him. He’s a remarkable horse, and I’ve been blessed to get to train him.
