SENIOR WORKING HUNTER

BACK TO BACK!

BY CHRISTINE HAMILTON, FIELD EDITOR

Trainer Jason Martin of Aubrey, Texas, and Flamingo Bay win back-to-back world championships in senior working hunter.

A tough field made up the World Show finals in the senior working hunter November 17, 2005. Almost every entry was a World Show veteran, including 2003 Superhorse Movin Artfully. Several already had working hunter world championships (in youth, amateur and open) under their belts: Lucca Brasi, Supremotee For Me, Keepin The Image (2005 world champion in the amateur) Executive Hotrodder and Dominant Lord.

But the one to come out on top was Flamingo Bay with AQHA Professional Horseman Jason Martin (of High Point Performance Horses in Pilot Point, Texas) in the irons. The pair won the world championship in this class last year.

Anyone familiar with the horse wasn’t surprised. You’ve probably heard the comment, “he’s an honest horse”? Well, Flamingo Bay is an honest champion.

Owned by Rodger Call of Fort Worth, Texas, the 16-year-old bay gelding has earned some kind of title for all but one of the five people that have owned him.

Call bought him from Carrie von Uhlit after the 2004 World Show, when he sold her his (then) horse Movin Artfully. His wife, Ann, is well known as a consistent competitor in World Show pleasure driving.

Call showed Flamingo Bay at the 2005 Bayer Select World Championship Show and won the reserve Sooner Trailer Bayer Select World All-Around Amateur award with him.

Flamingo Bay is all Quarter Horse. On his sire side, Flamingo Bay actually comes from a respected family of western performance horses through his grandsire, Doc’s Solano. As an English performer, he stands out among a slew of National Cutting Horse Association and National Reining Horse Association money earners.

His dam, Dillons Doll, earned a Superior in western pleasure, and her sire, Kansas Dillion, had NCHA earnings of $5,900 earned back in the 1970s. Flamingo Bay was her only foal.

Here’s a short list of Flamingo Bay’s accomplishments:
