Majestic Scotch has been a hot commodity in the youth division for several years, but he and trainer, Charlie Cole, stepped it up a notch to win an open world championship in western riding.

“I was really happy with our performance,” Cole said. “It was consistent, and it was really smooth.

Cole has been riding “Dicky” for owner Sharnai Thompson for a year. He brought him home from the World Show last year to his facility in Pilot Point, Texas.

Cole and Dicky maneuver
through the western riding
pattern in the finals.
“He’s such a great mover, and just has a natural way of going,” Cole said. He really enjoys his job, so that makes him a lot of fun to show,”

Dicky is a mainstay in the western riding and western pleasure classes, but Cole said he wants to concentrate on improving in the trail next year. Dicky will also be adding one more rider next year. Thompson’s mother, Tammy Dyer, is going to compete on him as well. She placed fifth in the novice amateur western riding at the All American Quarter Horse Congress this year, and plans to continue with him down the show trail.

Cole and Dicky will have one more opportunity for gold when they compete in the senior western pleasure finals Friday, November, 18.
