Ted Turner thinks Self Employed is one of the best halter horses he has ever shown. And Ted should know, as he won his record-breaking 61st world championship with the 2-year-old stallion November 17.

“He’s a real freak as far as his neck, his shoulder and his heart,” the AQHA Pro Horseman said. “They just don’t make horses like that. He’s a very modern horse.”

And Self Employed is easy on the eyes.

“If you would wrap his front legs and looked at a picture of him, he would look like Pretty Impressive, the horse that Tommy Manion used to have years ago,” Ted said. “This horse is Pretty Impressive bred top and bottom.”

Ted Turner won his 61st world championship title with Self Employed.

Another thing Ted likes about Self Employed is that he is HYPP N/N.

“That is something today a lot of people are looking to breed to,” he said.

Ted saw Self Employed at the 2005 World Show whenhe was the world champion amateur yearling stallion. Ted and his friend Lou Feverstein purchased the stallion earlier this year.

“Only time we showed him was when we went to Oregon to get him qualified,” Ted said. “We then took him to Kentucky right before Congress to give him a little warm up, showed him at a show there, and he was grand both days.”

Their good fortune continued when at the All American Quarter Horse Congress when Self Employed was named the grand champion stallion.

With this World Show win, Self Employed will be retired.

“We will now stand him at stud,” Ted said. “We feel very fortunate to have him. He’s a great horse. We feel very fortunate to get done what we did.”
