While most of Barbara Hoffer’s horses prefer peppermints, Not Kiddin Me can be persuaded to stand at attention in the ring when offered a Sweet-Tart. And after winning the world championship in 2-year-old stallions, he’s earned a whole bag of them.

“We have so much fun with him because he’s just so pretty,” Barbara Hoffer said of the buckskin stallion by Buckleys Mr Twister and out of Not Kiddin by Kid Clu. “And more importantly, he has the sweetest disposition.”

Barbara Hoffer showed Not Kiddin Me to a world championship title in 2-year-old stallions.
Hoffer and her husband, John, who won the 2-year-old stallions world championship at the Bayer Select World Show in September with “Twister,” owned the stallion’s sire, a nine-time American Buckskin Registry Association world champion, until his untimely death.

“Right after we bred (Twister), his father was shot and killed by three teenagers making mischief,” Hoffer said. “We didn’t even know if we had any babies coming out of him.

“The result was he had one stud colt and two fillies and this is the stud colt.  So this is like carrying on the heritage of my first buckskin stallion that I loved so much and won so much with.”

The Hoffers have been raising halter horses for 13 years, and showing in AQHA for 11. Twister is their second homebred world champion. Their stallion, Dun Beyond Reality, won titles in 2002 and 2003.

“We feel very honored,” Hoffer said. “We’re just a pretty small ranch, but we’ve worked to get the best quality brood mares we could get and we feel very, very honored to have raised two world champion Quarter Horse stallions.”

Twister will begin his career as a stallion in January when the Hoffers will turn him over to the care of Bill and Ann Lanning of Pilot Point, Texas.

“They just love Twister,” Hoffer said. “They’re real excited about getting him and we’ve had so much interest from people wanting to breed to him because it’s just hard to find faults in him. We’re pretty excited about him.”
