Remember One For The Record? The 1988 Superhorse retired to become a broodmare for the Kaplow family of Chappaqua, New York.

And look what she produced: the 2006 world champion in junior working hunter, On Record, a 4-year-old gelding by Artful Move.

“I showed his mother as a youth when I was 16, and then I won the Superhorse here on her,” said breeder Robyn Carol Kaplow.

Bill Ellis takes On Record
through the junior working
hunter course.

While trainer Bill Ellis has been showing On The Record this year in open classes, Robyn has been showing “Bruce” in amateur.

“I hadn’t been riding,” Robyn said. “I didn’t ride for about six years. I just decided to come back because I love the horse, and I’m really excited to show him next year. He’s so special. He can do no wrong.”

Bill and Bruce had competed in the green working hunter finals November 16 and were able to get a bead on the course before jumping it in the junior working hunter finals.

“I did very little with him to prepare him for the junior,” Bill said. “He went in and was great – nice and relaxed – and jumped really well, I thought.

“He’s got just some natural charisma. He’s a beautiful looking horse; he’s got a beautiful expression; he’s a great mover, and his style over the jumps – his technique – is really very, very correct. When they jump, you want their head and neck to be low and both front legs’ knees to be high and square, and he’s about textbook-perfect in that respect,” Bill said

While Robyn plans to continue showing Bruce in amateur classes, hoping to qualify for the 2007 World Show, Bill hopes to continue showing him in junior. He also has a secret ambition to see how Bruce would do in front of a cart.

“I think he’ll make a really nice driving horse,” he said.
