AQHA Pro Horseman Ross Roark of Monahans, Texas, led Gerri Leigh Pratt’s (of Winston Salem, North Carolina) Phenomenal Poise to a world championship in weanling geldings on November 16.

“He’s by Call Me Phenomenal and out of a daughter of Telusive that Gerri Leigh owns; she raised this colt,” Ross said. Gerri Leigh has actually agreed to sell the horse to Stanley Scott of Ocala, Florida.

Ross Roark and Phenomenal Poise capture the 2006 weanling gelding world championship title.

“He’s an exceptional horse,” Ross said. “Probably as good a baby gelding as I’ve ever showed at this show. He’s easy to fit up and easy to prepare. Just keep him healthy, and you’ll win something.

“He’s actually bred really, really good,” he continued. “If you want to know the truth, we cut him a little early in life. We might should have left him a stud, but we can’t fix that now.”

Ross has known Gerri Leigh for a long time.

“We’ve done business in the last year,” he said. “She wants to win; she wants to have good horses. She knows how we work around our place. The biggest secret in this business is having good horses.

“I’m going to continue working for her and striving to win,” he added. “She’s a super lady to work for.”

Gerri Leigh lost her leading sire Telusive in September, due to a heart attack.

“That was a big loss to the industry,” Ross said. “One of the premier sires in our business, when we lost him we took a big hit. But Gerri Leigh just kept on going.”
