Acoolest has had a pretty cool week.
First the sorrel stallion won the amateur 2-year-old stallions with his owner and breeder Rita Crundwell at the lead. And then he came in and took the open 2-year-old stallions class with AQHA Professional Horseman Ross Roark.
“He’s just a good individual,” Ross said. “He’s very correct on his feet and legs. He’s got a pretty head and neck. He shows a lot of balance, and he has just enough muscle.”
Ross also led the stallion to a world championship in 2006 in yearling stallions.
“He was first under all five judges last year,” he said.
By Coolest and out of Attest by Touchdown Kid, Acoolest has the breeding needed to be a world champion. His sire placed in the Top 10 at the World Show as a weanling in 1988 and as a yearling in 1989. His dam has three world championships: 2002 world champion amateur 3-year-old mare, 2003 world champion amateur aged mare and 2004 Select world champion aged mare.
Ross showed his mother, Attest, during her open show career.
“He’s a lot like his mother and his dad,” he said. “He has a really good disposition. He’s a show horse. Every time I ask him, he shows good. That means a lot here at this show.”
This might be Acoolest’s last show, though.
“I’ll have to talk to Ross and Jim (McPhillips) and see what they think, but we might retire him,” Rita said.
As for Ross, the show goes on for him with another slate of halter classes on the last day of the World Show on November 17.
“When you come here, there are so many good horses and so many good horsemen, you have to have your horses ready and have to get them presented,” he said. “And what happens, happens. Luckily, I’ve had some nice horses that have shown good for me and I’ve had a good week.”
