AGED STALLIONS

A RADIANT IMAGE AND JEFFREY PAIT WIN ANOTHER WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP.

BY TONYA RATLIFF-GARRISON, FIELD EDITOR

A Radiant Image won his third world championship for Jeffrey Pait and Peter Cofrancesco III.
A Radiant Image is, well, radiant.

The 4-year-old stallion has always stood out since his first AQHA World Championship Show in 2005 when he was the reserve world champion amateur 2-year-old stallion. In 2006, “Dawson” returned to win his first world championship in the amateur 3-year-old stallion and take another reserve world championship in the open 3-year-old stallion.

On November 7, with Peter J. Cofrancesco III at the lead, Dawson was the unanimous world champion in amateur aged stallions under all five judges.

AQHA Professional Horseman Jeffrey Pait brought Dawson back on November 17 to the open aged stallions, and the stallion placed first under three of the judges with a second and third under the other two, giving him another world championship.

“A Radiant Image is a neat horse to be around,” Jeffrey said. “He has a fantastic disposition. He’s an easy going, very laid back type of horse. He’s just a pleasant horse to work around who you can do anything with. He just shows great.”

Jeffrey thinks what makes the stallion stand out is his good looks.

“He’s just very breedy, and he looks like a stallion,” he said. “He’s an exceptional breedy horse that is pretty darn close to perfect. He’s very well-made: balanced, structurally correct and got plenty of muscle. This horse is exactly for the halter but at the same time he’s quite a pretty mover. He’s a pretty neat horse.”

And he’s passing those traits on to his foals.

“We’re starting to get some babies by him that look like that, so we’re pretty excited,” Jeffrey said. “This year was his first foal crop, and he had about 19 babies. There are quite a few that favor him quite a bit. We are very excited about them.

“Next year we should have around 35 babies by him; a little bigger crop. The good part is he’s crossing on all different kinds of mares. I really enjoy raising those babies and seeing what they are going to have next year.”

With a few world championships on him now and some nice babies on the ground, Jeffrey isn’t sure if Dawson will continue his show career, though.

“He’s a young horse, he’s only 4, so he’s got a whole future ahead of him,” Jeffrey said. “I think we can slow down with the horse showing now and go work on the breeding of him. I hope to have a lot of babies by him. He’s pretty exceptional.”
