Trent Tobin of Fredericktown, Ohio, won his first AQHA World Show Championship aboard his homebred stallion, Redneck Jet.
Qualifying for the World Show speed events with three horses, Trent was fifth going into the amateur pole bending finals. But “Jet” and Trent flew by the competition with a combined total time of 41.588 from their prelim and finals runs.
“I’ve been coming to the World Show for about six years,” Trent said. “And to have a homegrown horse underneath you means a whole lot to me and my family when you’ve raised the horse and done everything with him.”
Jet has multiple top 10 finishes beginning in 1992. The 11-year-old bay stallion placed third in amateur pole bending at the 2006 AQHA World Championship Show.
At this year’s World Show, Trent placed ninth in amateur barrels with Redneck Rosie, sired by Redneck Jet. Also sired by Redneck Jet, Trent placed 14th with Redneck Taxi Cab in amateur pole bending.
“It’s been a lot of hard work with him to get him where he is. We started him when he was young and kept going at it,” Trent said about Jet.
“I didn’t think we would make it all the way but I knew we could.” Trent continued, “And I didn’t know for sure we had won until they announced it!”
