| Dr. Gigi Wood Davis has shown Shes Some Blonde and her sire, Shiney Conclusion, to world championships. |
Winning the world championship in amateur weanling mares with Shes Some Blonde was near and dear to Dr.Gigi Wood Davis’ heart.
“We bought her right before the Palomino World, and I showed her there in the amateur and won the Palomino World, so she’s a two-time world champion,” Gigi explained. “And her daddy, I showed him as a yearling and was world champion with him here at the World Show.”
That was in 2003, when Gigi lead Shiney Conclusion to the world championship in amateur yearling stallions. But the palomino stallion died in 2005.
“This is his last crop of babies,” Gigi said. “We’ve been sad; we just loved him.”
The Savannah, Tennessee, exhibitor will show two of “Velma’s” siblings this week as well.
“We’ve bought several (Shiney Conclusion) babies because he had just the best disposition and good legs; he was very correct in his conformation,” Gigi said.
Gigi said Velma is a nice, sweet filly to be around. She’s trained by Luke Castle.
Gigi is no stranger to showing horses. Born into a family that showed, she has been showing since she was 5 years old and met her husband, Greg, while showing in AQHYA. She quit showing while in college and medical school, but when she and Greg got married, after she finished her residency, it wasn’t long before the twowere back in the show ring.
“We started showing the second year we were married,” she said.
Standing with her filly in the pen November 8, waiting to line up under the five judges at the AQHA World Championship show, Gigi said all she could think about was showing Velma as best she could. It earned her a gold trophy and a world title.
“My whole family is here today,” she said. “So it’s special.”
