 | | Harriet Yakatan hustled to the arena to accept the world championship that Jason Martin won on her mare Potential Advantage in the junior western riding. | A 230.5 easily won the junior western riding for Jason Martin and Potential Advantage, but not without some tense moments while the score was held for review.
“They said hold the score for review,” owner Harriet Yakatan explained. “Jason went second so I was like, 'Oh my, why are they doing that? He had an awesome go, it was like, flawless.'” Harriet had 13 more gos to sit through, waiting to find out what her mare’s final score would be. It wasn’t until the class was returning to the ring for the awards ceremony that she knew the AQHA Pro Horseman had a winning go on her horse. Harriet bought Potential Advantage a year ago from Troy Oakley. “She’s my pleasure horse,” the Hermosa Beach, California, owner said. “I was 13th at the Select World this year on her. She’s a wonderful, wonderful mare, real sweet, kind and forgiving. And I’m 62 years old and I need a forgiving, kind horse!” It was the second big award for the bay mare by Potential Investment out of Chips Advantage by Zips Chocolate Chip. Earlier in the night she was reserve world champion with Jason riding in the junior trail. Oddly enough, the experience was a repeat of 1993 for Harriet. “In 1993, Jason won the junior western riding on my horse, The Yellow Page, that was his first win in junior western riding, and reserve world champion in trail,” she said. “And today we were reserve world champion in the trail and won the western riding. Jason’s the master.”
