| Ross Roark showed Mister Skipa Cool to the world championship in performance halter geldings. |
Mister Skipa Cool almost didn’t make it to the AQHA World Championship Show where he won the world championship in performance halter geldings.
“The decision to come here was a bit surprising,” “Ace’s” owner Suzanne Sherick said.
“I had him for sale. I actually had him sold, but I backed out of the sale in August and sent in my entry.”
After earning 300 halter points, 300 performance points and surviving an almost fatal accident, Suzanne said she just couldn’t go through with the sale.
“I love the horse,” she said. “I’ve been through too much with the horse.”
Suzanne bought Ace five years ago from Patricia Scroggins Hall and Kenny Hall in Texas, and trained and fitted him herself. But four years ago, it all nearly came to a screeching halt.
“The neighbors left up a trampoline,” Suzanne explained. “It blew across 10 acres and over two fences and into his pen. He went over a fence, through wire next door and landed on a post.
“But God saved him and here he is.”
Suzanne and Ace have shown in everything from trail to halter to horsemanship to barrels and poles, earning the titles of Supreme Champion and a versatility champion along the way.
She said getting Ace ready for a World Show appearance in performance halter geldings came pretty naturally.
“He’s been an awfully good halter horse all along,” she said. “So that part was easy.”
