PERFORMANCE HALTER MARES

LUCKY NUMBER SEVEN S PRETTY LADY.

BY MEGAN BROWNELLJOURNAL INTERN

Seven S Pretty Lady walks with
Jeffrey Pait and Peggy Cofrancesco
after winning performance halter
mares.
Seven S Pretty Lady made history when she won her first world championship in the debut of performance halter mares at the 2007 AQHA World Championship Show.

The 11-year-old bay mare is owned by Peter Cofrancesco Jr. of Sparta, New Jersey. “Lady” was led to her championship by AQHA Professional Horseman Jeffrey Pait of Sparta, New Jersey.

Bob Stuart of Waurika, Oklahoma, bred the winning mare by Seven S Zanaday and out of Seven S Pretty Girl by Port Command.

“This mare, she’s got quite a bit of history,” Jeffrey said with Peggy Cofrancesco by his side. “Peggy’s late husband, Peter, found this mare several years ago.”

Even after winning at the World Show with a horse they had been campaigning, Peter repeatedly told Jeffrey he kept seeing this really nice mare he wanted.

“Long story made short, we wound up getting the (Lady) mare and did some creative dealing to get her,” Jeffrey said.

She’s a great mare. She’s produced some really nice babies and when AQHA came up with the (performance halter) class, we thought, ‘Well, that’s the perfect class for Lady.’”

Lady’s offspring have also been successful in and out of the show arena. Fabio Zini, a 2003 bay out of Lady, is a 2007 World Show qualifier in performance halter stallions.

“(Lady) is a wonderful horse at home. She never bothers anything,” Jeffrey said. “She’s a sweetheart -- always watching something, and she doesn’t miss a beat. She’s really a pleasure to be around.”

Jeffrey fit the mare with help from home.

“Everybody back at the farm, the whole group of us take care of her,” he said.

Lady earned her performance points in heading and heeling. Jeffrey said she is a fantastic ride and knows how to work.

“She has a great canter and can trot all day long,” he said. “I’ve been ponying other halter horses on her this week.

“She might be 11 years old, but she still knows what whoa means and will bury her tail in the ground,” Jeffrey said with a smile.
