Jeremy Barwick and Dual Rey Me work a cow to score a 228 and claim the senior cutting world title.
In the senior cutting finals November 17 at the 2007 AQHA World Championship Show, Eugene “Dell” Bell rode first on Smart Cinch Olena. He entered the herd on the Diane Foster-owned bay gelding and scored a 219.
That score held through 11 more riders until Jeremy Barwick sauntered in on Dual Rey Me, the 2005 National Cutting Horse Association Super Stakes champion.
Jeremy and “Reno” worked three Angus cows for an announced score of 227.
“We had watched the cattle and had three cows picked out,” Jeremy said. “The first two cows were our favorites, and we found them pretty quick. My last cow was a little quicker than I wanted to be, but I misunderstood my help. I thought they said 24 (seconds left), and they said 34, so we cut that cow with a little too much time, but it worked out.”
After the last finalist worked, the announcer called for a change of score for Jeremy – to a 228.
“He’s been with us since he was 4, and he’s just been a good horse the whole time we’ve had him,” Jeremy said. “He’s pretty much part of the family, so we’ve kinda gotta keep him around.”
Reno has more than $540,000 in NCHA earnings and was the NCHA open world champion in 2007, a title based on a year’s earnings. This year’s championship is his first AQHA world title.

“I kinda like it,” Jeremy said. “In AQHA, everybody sees (him), and I think he’s a horse that everybody needs to see.”
Reno was injured in a trailer accident a few months before the World Show, but he didn’t appear injured during his finals cut.
“His recovery is going great,” said Candace Barwick, who owns the horse with her husband, Jeremy. “We just turn him out and let him play, and we get him up in the evenings, and we work him maybe a day before a show and get back on the road.”
That road travel has Reno leading the NCHA open world championship standings to date for the 2008. He’ll be in Amarillo for the world finals there. After that, Candace has new plans for Reno.
“Non-pro,” she said. “I’m going to start showing him now.”
