 | Julie O'Brien rode Sky Blue Yonder to the world championship in senior hunter hack. | “When you breed horses, you always have that ultimate dream that maybe some day one of them will get here,” Julie O’Brien said just after winning the world championship in senior hunter hack on Tina McElroy's Sky Blue Yonder, a horse she bred.
“Then to actually have it happen, it’s just an unbelievable feeling.” But it wasn’t the first time “Quincy” has brought home gold. Quincy earned the world championship in amateur pleasure driving for Tina on November 6. “He was very good tonight,” Julie said. “He just had a really good pace and fired off the jumps really nicely, I thought. He was awesome on the rail. I just pretty much pitched him away, and he just went right around. He was very relaxed today and very focused.” Julie sold the 1997 bay gelding to Tina when he was a 2-year-old. Under Julie’s guidance, Tina and Quincy have had many top-10 placings at the World Show and earned the 2001 amateur hunter under saddle world championship. Unfortunately, Tina, who is a computer software consultant, wasn’t able to stay in Oklahoma to see her horse win his second world championship of the 2007 AQHA World Championship Show. “She left after amateur week,” Julie said. “But I’m sure I have a million messages on my phone right now!”
