Zans Diamond Shine and four-time Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association All-Around Cowboy Trevor Brazile captured a second 2007 AQHA world championship on November 17, this time in the senior tie-down.
Fresh off a win in the senior heeling, the two came into the finals with the third best qualifying score, a 224. By the time they backed into the box thirteenth in the go, Irish Whiskey Mix and Ryan Jarrett (2005 PRCA All-Around Cowboy) had the finals score to beat – a 226.
But a few seconds later Trevor and “Sparky” had the lead and the win with a 231.
“Sparky was flawless tonight,” Trevor said. “He works like that at home, and you hope for those results when you put him in front of the fans, and he didn’t let us down tonight.
“There’s nothing I would have changed about the run,” he added. “That’s the way he’s been operating at the house all week, and it just carried over right into the show. That’s what makes a trainer and owner smile.
“It’s a lot of fun. He’s got so much natural talent, he really fits well in all the roping events.”
Trevor added that it’s really fun when you have a “crossover horse,” one that does well in both the rodeo and show arenas.
“The ones like Sparky that you are able to win with in the timed events and rodeos and still come back here and do well with in the AQHA shows, that says a lot for a horse because that means he can do it fast and pretty,” he said.
“And with two world championships this year for him, and I’ve seen some of his colts and am really liking and enjoying the way that those horses are moving and riding, I’m excited to see some of his offspring come here and do the same.”
A 1999 palomino stallion by Shining Spark and out of Zans Diamond Ring by Zans Diamond Sun, Sparky was bred by Carol Rose of Gainesville, Texas.
Dennis Schroeder of Freedom, Oklahoma, has owned him since 2003.
What are Dennis’ plans for the horse?
“I don’t know,” Dennis said with a smile. “We’re going to talk, I guess, and see what we figure out. He’s going to do something.”
And he had several people to thank., including AQHA Pro Horseman Bobby Lewis for breaking Sparky, and Trevor "for putting the icing on the cake.”
Trevor added his thanks to Bobby, the 2002 Professional’s Choice AQHA Pro Horseman of the Year.
“I’ve only had the horse for the past couple of months, and Bobby had the hard work,” Trevor said. “I just had to get to where I could fit him.”
So, what does an AQHA world championship mean to a four-time PRCA All-Around Cowboy?
“It means a lot because the horse part of it is the most fun for me,” Trevor said. “I love to rodeo, and I love winning. But when it’s all said and done, I just really enjoy great horses and getting to ride those.
“That’s my passion, just getting to ride great horses,” he continued. “That’s why I love coming here. They really exhibit the horses and really appreciate good runs by the horses and not just the times.”
