Linda Crothers catch rode her way to her second world championship of the night when she piloted Cheryllee Sargent’s Supremotee For Me to the top of the class in senior working hunter November 11.
“It was exciting, and it was a great trip,” Cheryllee said. “We were nervous and anxious, but I thought Linda did a marvelous job with him. He really marched right around.”
Linda picked up the ride from friend Sandy Vaughn. Sandy was injured in a riding accident in March and called on Linda to catch ride many of her clients' horses at the AQHA World Championship Show.
“I started riding him this week when they got here, before amateur week when Cheryllee came,” Linda said. “It was another great Sandy Vaughn ride.”
Linda said she got a little worried going to the first fence when Supremotee For Me had other tasks on his mind.
“He raised his tail and was thinking about pooping,” Linda said. “He’s a nice horse, but he can’t multitask too well and I was thinking, “Oh no, here comes the first jump and he’s pooping. Please leave the ground,” and he did and we were OK and it was cake.”
Linda enjoyed her ride on Cherylee’s 1998 gray gelding.
“He was good, he was real good,” she said. “It was great fun to ride him. He’s got a lovely jump, and he’s easy, lots of fun.”
Cheryllee had plenty of success with her horse during amateur week, making it back in all of their finals.
“He’s a neat horse, and I just hope to catch up and be as good as he is someday,” Cherylee said. “We had a really good time. It was a successful week, and we really enjoyed it.”
Cheryllee said she and the big gray will be back next year.
“I told my husband we get to keep him for another year,” she said. “He’s a lot of fun, and he really kind of rises to the occasion here. It’s definitely worth the effort to get him prepared to come here. It seems to be his home turf.”
