November 5, 2005 -- LDS Dash For Dylan was a prompt even-money favorite in the November 5, $175,000 Bayer Legend Derby Challenge Championship (G1) at Los Alamitos. Under reigning AQHA champion jockey G.R. Carter Jr, the homebred gelding by Dashing Cleat covered 400 yards in :19.520 en route to a nose victory over 19-10 second choice Tell Em Im Gone, who tripped the timer in :19.526. Bret Vickery saddled LDS Dash For Dylan for owner Donna King of Firth, Idaho.
Bred by King, a 10-consecutive-year breeder, LDS Dash For Dylan is one of 22 stakes winners from 10 crops sired by Dashing Cleat, a winning stallion by First Down Dash who ran second in the 1991 QHBC Juvenile Classic (G1) at Los Alamitos and was a finalist in champion Corona Chick's Ed Burke Memorial Futurity (G1). The gelding is one of two starters produced by his winning dam, the Proudest Effort mare LDS Good Goin Gracie, who was also bred by King and who ran second in the '98 Dixie Downs Futurity in Utah.
LDS Dash For Dylan has banked $192,142 from seven wins in 13 starts, and his three stakes scores include the October 8 Old Habits Handicap at Los Alamitos and the July 17 Bayer Legend Northwest Derby Challenge (G3) at Wyoming Downs. Of his total bankroll, $191,216 has been earned this year.
WRS Special Shoe, a 32-1 longshot, ran third and was followed by Dasha Freda, Eye For Dale, Cartel Leader, Exotic Darlin, Go Fly West and Hez Habit Forming. Grade 1 winner Bombay Martini was scratched.
