November 5, 2005 -- Longshots dominated the $150,000 Ford Juvenile Challenge Championship (G1) at Los Alamitos, as Canosa captured the 350-yard sprint at odds of 16-1. The gelding's margin of victory was a half of a length from 14-1 longshot Passion Rush, and the pair combined to produce a ($1) exacta return of $210.60.

Ridden by Hector Cuevas, Canosa covered the trip in :17.461 and earned a 96 speed index, as well as the $76,500 winner's share of the purse to push his earnings to $114,646. Bill Hoburg prepped Canosa for owner 4G Racing of Othello, Washington.

Canosa was bred by AQHA Hall of Fame member Blane Schvaneveldt of Cypress, California, and he is one of three American Quarter Horse stakes winners from four crops sired by Red (TB), an 11-year-old stallion by Siyah Kalem (TB). Canosa's dam, the winning Mr Eye Opener mare Just Mairi, is a half sister to stakes winners Past Performance, A Dash Of Mairi and Mairis Cartel.

Canosa has won four of eight races, including the July 17 Ford Northwest Juvenile Challenge (G3) at Wyoming Downs, and he placed sixth in the October 2, $86,031 Canada Cup Futurity (RG2) at Whoop-Up Downs at Lethbridge, Alberta. He also was a finalist in the May 29 Bitterroot Futurity (RG2) at Pocatello Downs in Idaho.

Gigarad ran third to complete a $1,109.70 ($1) trifecta. Startlet Hawk, the 9-10 favorite, ran fourth and was followed by Native Cartel, Makeala, Going To The Hague and Ace Crystal Charm.
