“Are we unzipping anything yet?” Maggie Fortune asked as she walked past the Connecticut stalls.
No, she wasn’t asking if I wanted to take off the jacket I happened to be wearing. She was referring to Irene Bugliari’s horse Unzip My Imagination, “Simon,” who has some reputation in his home barn in Connecticut.
The 7-year-old gelding is notorious for unzipping jackets.
“The lady who owned him before us was the only one that had him, and I guess he learned it there because she always did it with him,” Irene explained.
For the past few years that Irene has known this horse, and the past year and a half that she has owned him, the 16-year-old of Meriden, Connecticut, has stayed clear of trouble with Simon's quick lips.
Barn mates joked that Simon was destined to be a dog, but is stuck in a horse’s body.
Irene will be showing in western horsemanship, hunt seat equitation and showmanship later in the week.
