Ceri McCaffery, 15, rode RC Fly Boy to fourth place in the breakaway roping finals.
Going to a horseshow with six horses is a stressful ordeal, but not for Ceri McCaffery.
Although her first Ford AQHYA World Championship Show experience was a little different from most exhibitors’, she took it in stride.
Not only does the 15-year-old from Lake City, Kansas have six horses with her here at the Ford Youth World, but she is completely by herself.
“I haven’t been home for about the last month, month and a half,” Ceri said. Her family has been focused on moving from their previous home in Lake City, Kansas, to Wayne, Oklahoma, which left them unable to make it for the show.
“It’s nice to have help,” Ceri commented on her lack of company, “but I usually do everything by myself anyway.”
After winning the pole bending with Smooth San, an 11-year-old gelding, Ceri remained calm enough to place fourth in the breakaway roping, with one of her other geldings here at the show, RC Fly Boy.
A modest competitor with a smiling face, Ceri is quite pleased with her performance at her first Ford Youth World. A gold trophy in hand, she will head back to her new home in Oklahoma the morning of Monday, August 4th.
