Kyle Kellogg, 17, of Bradenton, Florida, was surprised to find out two weeks before the 2007 Ford AQHYA World Championship Show that he was electronically assigned the same number, 644, as his mother Shannon Cox had been hand drawn 31 years ago at the 1976 AJQHA World Show.
So what does Shannon plan on doing with the matching numbers? She plans on putting her 31-year-old number, which she saved, behind Kyle’s number 644 that he will be using here at the Ford Youth World Show.
Although Shannon and her son share the same number here in Fort Worth, Texas, many other things are different about the show.
In 1976 the Youth World Show was in Tulsa, Oklahoma. That year Shannon showed in horsemanship and hunter under saddle. She noted back then there was no hunt seat equitation or equitation over fence classes, which are two of the five classes Kyle will compete in this week here in Fort Worth, Texas.
When asked what is different about the atmosphere today, Shannon said that it was a lot more formal back in 1976. Today it is more of a casual, laid-back atmosphere. During the parade of teams in 1976, all of the exhibiters wore full show attire.
Kyle will compete with his horse Whats New In Blue in hunt seat equitation, equitation over fences, working hunter, hunter hack and jumping. Kyle hopes that this coincidence in numbers brings him luck this week.
