2-YEAR-OLD GELDINGS

STEELERS FAN HAPPY TO WIN BRADSHAW-SPONSORED CLASS.

BY LARRI JO STARKEY, COPY EDITOR

Alexis R. McKenzie leads "Steeler"
to pick up her world championship
trophy in a class sponsored by
former Pittsburgh Steeler Terry
Bradshaw.

Alexis R. McKenzie and her family are big fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

So much so that back home in the barn, Alexis’ 2-year-old sorrel gelding, Rula Cool, is called “Steeler.”

She should have guessed then that she would win the world championship at the 2007 AQHYA World Championship Show in 2-year-old geldings, a class sponsored by former Steeler quarterback Terry Bradshaw, who now raises halter horses.

“He’s a really nice horse,” Alexis said of Steeler. “I’ve had him for two years. He’s kind of stubborn, but I really love him. He’s just an awesome horse, and I’m glad to have him.”

Alexis, a competitive cheerleader and dancer, led Steeler to her second world championship August 11.

“(In 2003), I won in yearling mares with a palomino filly, (Cool Madonna),” she said.

Alexis, an 18-year-old from Canton, Texas, will attend Austin Community College in the fall. She hopes to continue showing.

“I’ve been showing since I was about 9 years old,” she said. “I have one more year. Next year will be my last year.”
